Title
Florence Project Client Art
Description
This art was lent to the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project (FIRRP) by employees and community members who had been gifted it by clients, friends and family members who were detained. The artists are adults and children who were in immigration detention in Arizona, facing deportation. The adults were detained in ICE detention centers in Florence and Eloy, Arizona, and the children were detained in ORR shelters for unaccompanied immigrant children in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona.
Members of the Florence Project’s Development Team collected the art for a client art show in 2019. Immigration detention is deeply isolating, and most members of the community aren’t aware that there are detention centers for both adults and children right in their backyards. As part of the Florence Project’s ongoing effort to shed light on the harms caused by these systems, the organization staged a client art show, to share the tremendous talent of many of the people that they serve.
