Visualizing Detention

This art was lent to the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project by employees and community members who had been gifted it by detained clients, friends and family members. The artists are adults and children who were in immigration detention in Arizona, facing deportation. The adults were detained in ICE detention centers in Florence and Eloy, Arizona, and the children were detained in Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) shelters for unaccompanied immigrant children in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. Members of the Florence Project’s Development Team collected this art for a client art show in 2019. As part of the Florence Project’s ongoing effort to shed light on the harms caused by these systems, the organization staged a client art show, to share the tremendous talent of many of the people that they serve.
